Vince Lombardi

Coach Rossi brings you some quotes from The Green Bay Packers famous iconic coach, Vince Lombardi.....one you've likely heard - albeit as the generally acknowledged incorrect version.....its proper version.....and one that you've probably never heard that I particularly like.

Coach Lombardi is credited with the statement "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing".

In a professional sport setting, it isn't a stretch to think he actually said this to his players to motivate them, but the version considered more accurate is "Winning isn't everything, but making the effort to win is".

The quote from him that I find particularly motivational is this one:

"Perfection is not attainable. But if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence!"

Coach Brandes and I do not expect anyone to be perfect - no one is - but if we all make the effort to achieve perfection - without letting frustration get to us - then we will raise the quality of our game over time.

Bobby Knight, the famous (or infamous depending upon your point of view) basketball coach of the Indiana Hoosiers, Texas Tech Red Raiders and Army Black Knights won over 900 Division 1 games and three National Titles (all with Indiana) during his career.

He expressed this thought about the Will to Win

"The key is not the "will to win" ...everybody has that. It is the will to prepare that is important."

Welcome and Famous (or Infamous) Quotes

Welcome to another season of Lake Placid Blue Bomber Baseball. Last year's Sectional Title is to be savored but it also to be placed on the mantle for another time in your life. A new season brings with it new hopes, new challenges - and new goals.

Coach Brandes and I are excited for the new season to unfold and for the possibilities it will bring. As part of my role, I will primarily use this blog to share famous quotes with you - some from athletes - and some not - but all with a purpose of helping you gain insight into yourselves about the challenges and joys of sport....and life.
